H/O 455 Forced Air Induction Hood Decal Set – Factory-Correct Reproduction for the 1969 Hurst/Oldsmobile

Backwoods Fabrications is proud to bring history back to life — with our exacting, purist-grade reproduction of the 1969 Hurst/Olds “H/O 455” Forced Air Induction hood scoop decals. These aren’t just stickers. These are the result of careful detective work and deep respect for authenticity. While only a couple of vendors have attempted to recreate these over the years, none caught the subtle—but critical—details that became clear only after we examined a set of unused originals side-by-side with those aftermarket attempts. Until now, those flaws went largely unnoticed — but once you see the difference, you can’t unsee it.

Built for Purists by Purists — Inspired by Lansing’s Legendary Iron

The 1969 Hurst/Olds was no ordinary Oldsmobile. Born from a bold partnership between Hurst Performance and Oldsmobile, it took the already potent Cutlass 442 and turned it into a street-dominating, gold-trimmed powerhouse. Stuffed with a 455-cubic inch Rocket V8, functional Forced Air Induction hood, and a distinct white-and-gold paint job, only 906 examples were built — making it one of the rarest and most revered muscle cars of the golden era.

And the magic didn’t end on the factory floor. Final performance tuning, trim, and unique identifiers — including those infamous hood scoop decals — were applied just a few miles from us, at Demmer Engineering in Lansing, Michigan. That local connection is part of our pride. We’re located just a short drive from where these legends were born, and our tribute product carries that legacy forward.

The Decal Details – Why Ours Matters

Thanks to a trusted friend and fellow enthusiast, we gained access to an original, unused set of H/O 455 decals — real-deal vintage pieces, not reproductions or second-hand copies. What we found was surprising: each side was completely different, and not just in subtle ways. The decals were intentionally skewed to match the taper of the functional hood scoop, which gives the car its aggressive stance. And here’s the kicker: the driver’s side decal is about 1/8” shorter in overall length than the passenger side — a tiny but significant detail straight from the factory.

Most reproduction sets completely miss this. They either mirror one side to create the other, ignore the hood’s natural skew, or fail to match the shape and color correctly. We made sure to capture every curve, angle, and length difference exactly as it was in 1969.

So we didn’t just get close — we nailed it:

  • Exact factory shape and size, including the unique skew and length variation.

  • Period-correct gold and black coloration, matched precisely from original samples.

  • Modern printing precision: While we suspect the originals were screen-printed (with telltale flaws from screen prep and misalignments), ours are clean, consistent, and sharp — honoring the past, without repeating its mistakes.

Why We Made These

Frankly, we were asked to. Multiple restoration pros and purists had tried every decal on the market and came up empty-handed. Most vendors just don’t get it — they miss the scale, the shape, the color, or they lazily mirror the design. That might pass for a casual show ‘n shine, but for true H/O nuts? That’s a deal-breaker.

Our decals are the only reproduction we know of that truly replicates the factory originals down to the most obscure quirks — and improves where the factory fell short.

The Final Word

This isn’t just a decal. It’s a piece of muscle car history, reissued with respect and precision. Whether you’re doing a concours-correct restoration or just want to finally fix those sad, inaccurate scoops with something worthy — this is the set for you.

And hey — when someone at a car show notices that the driver’s side is slightly shorter and perfectly follows the hood’s slope? You’ll know you’re in the right company.
