Looking for us to beat someone else’s price? Don’t ask. We don’t copy other builders’ work, and we don’t undercut them. If someone else designed and sells the badge you want, buy it from them. We also do not produce trademarked, licensed, or special-edition badges owned by others. We build our own products—not knockoffs.
 

A Note About AI-Generated Badge Designs

AI is great for coming up with ideas, but AI doesn’t run a CNC machine. We do.
 

We’re seeing more customers submit AI-generated badge designs that look incredibly detailed and realistic. There’s nothing wrong with using AI to help visualize an idea—in fact, it can be a great way to show us what you’re looking for.
 

The important thing to understand is that there’s a big difference between creating a picture of a badge and designing a badge that can actually be manufactured from aluminum.
 

AI isn’t necessarily considering cutter diameter, tool access, minimum feature size, inside radiuses, engraving depth, material thickness, enamel-fill areas, polishing, finishing, workholding, or the number of machining operations required to produce what it drew.
 

All of those things affect the cost of your badge.
 

An AI design may look simple on your screen while actually requiring multiple tools, additional machining operations, extremely small cutters, longer machine time, extra finishing, or significant design work to reproduce.
 

Those Detailed AI Specifications Aren’t Engineering Drawings

Some AI-generated designs now come with impressive-looking specification sheets showing exact dimensions, materials, colors and construction details.

Please understand that AI can make up those specifications just as easily as it made the picture.

​

A dimension printed beside an AI-generated badge doesn’t mean the artwork was actually created to that dimension. It also doesn’t mean the details shown can physically be machined at that size.

​

If we’re expected to reproduce those details and have to reverse-engineer the AI image, correct its dimensions, redraw complex artwork, engineer features for CNC machining or develop a different manufacturing approach to make it work, that additional work will be reflected in your initial quote.

So please don’t be surprised if an extremely detailed AI design receives a higher quote than you expected. The more complicated AI makes the design—and the more closely we’re expected to reproduce it—the more time and cost may be involved in turning that picture into an actual piece of machined aluminum.

Using AI as a Reference Is Different

This is where AI can actually be very helpful.

If you’re giving us an AI-generated image as inspiration or a reference—to show us the general style, shape, colors, layout or overall look you’re after—that generally does not increase your design cost.

​

In fact, a good reference can make our job easier because we can immediately see what you have in mind.

​

The difference is the expectation.

​

“Make me something like this” allows us to design your badge using features, dimensions and construction methods that we already know work well with our equipment and processes.

​

“Make me exactly this” may require considerably more design, engineering, machining and finishing work—and that will increase the cost.

​

Your AI Concept Is Still Welcome

Absolutely send it to us. AI-generated artwork can be a great starting point.

​

Just tell us whether the image is inspiration or something you expect us to reproduce closely. Those can be two very different projects with two very different costs.

​

If you’re flexible and simply want us to create something with the same general look and feel, we’ll design it around our normal manufacturing processes whenever possible and keep unnecessary costs out of the project.

​

If you want the AI design reproduced as closely as possible, we’ll determine what it takes to actually manufacture it and quote the project accordingly.
